Willis Leonard Askew, 66, of Dawson, Georgia passed away on January 10th, 2021 after a brief illness. A private graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 14th, 2021 at Thundering Springs Cemetery in Lee County with Rev. Johnny White officiating.
Leonard was born in Donalsonville, Georgia to Lillie Vorice and Willis Askew. He attended Lee County schools and graduated from Lee County High School.
Leonard was employed with Brooks Furniture in Collections. He previously had been employed with Firestone, sold cars and retired from Albany Police Department with ten years of service to law enforcement. Leonard was an avid fisherman and hunter and participated in numerous fishing tournaments over the years. Leonard was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
Leonard was preceded in death by his father, Willis Askew; mother, Rhoda Nadine Askew; and daughter, Kristy Askew Ulibarri.
Survivors include his wife, Laurel Ann McLendon Askew; mother, Lillie Vorice Barr of Ocala, FL; five children, Michael (Jennifer) Askew and Alysha Kimsey, all of Lee County, Jared Askew of U.S. Naval Base, Damneck, Virginia, Amanda Drawdy of Tifton and Tyler Uppole of U.S. Marine Base, Tampa, FL; five brothers, Mitchell (Donna) Askew of Ocala, FL, Freddy (Vicki) Askew, Alan (Dottie) Askew, Carlton (Cindy) Israel and Tommy (Karen) Askew, all of Lee County; four sisters, Ruth Ann Howell of Bainbridge, Connie (Vernon) Walls, Tammy (Tony) Moree and Brenda (Johnny) White, all of Lee County; thirteen grandchildren, Ryan, Elliott and Dalton Askew of Lee County, Kent Mauldin of Lee County, Brooklyn Adiano and Carlie and Aubrie Kimsey of Lee County, Brittany Robinson, MacKenzie Ulibarri and Emily Ulibarri of Lee County, Chasity and Austin Drawdy, and Benjamin Newton. He was also survived by numerous nieces and nephews.
