Jerry Michael "Mike" McLendon, 69, of Bronwood, passed away peacefully at his home on Saturday, April 25, 2020 after a battle with cholangiocarcinoma (bile duct cancer).
Born in Valdosta, he moved to Terrell County as a young boy with his family. At a young age he professed his faith on September 25, 1960 at First Baptist Church of Dawson and was currently a member of Dawson United Methodist Church.
Mr. McLendon was a former store manager for Piggly Wiggly Southern and later worked at Cooper Tire and Rubber. After "retirement", he worked part-time at Albany Nut and Bolt in Albany, Georgia. His interests focused on spending time with his family, pets, and gardening. He was an avid Georgia football fan and baseball card collector. Mike, was an air traffic controller in the United States Army. He served a tour of duty at Camp Evans near the Demilitarized Zone in Vietnam from 1970 to 1971.
Survivors include his wife, Ann McLendon, Bronwood, Ga, daughters and son in-laws, Leslie (Hunter) Odom and Meagan (Colby) Johnson, grandchildren, Wyatt and Abigail Odom and soon to be grandson, Miles Johnson, all of Leesburg, Ga, sister and brother-in-law, Eileen (Ivey) Minghini, Rock Spring, Ga, mother in-law, Betty Wise, Bronwood, Ga, many nieces and nephews, and his beloved dog, Maggie. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jennifer McLendon and father and mother, Julian and Martha Alice McLendon.
A private graveside funeral service will be conducted Tuesday, April 28th, 2020 at Bronwood Cemetery. Rev. Larry Kimbrel will officiate.
