Eloise Land Salter

Eloise Land Salter, 92, of Dawson, Georgia passed away on January 8, 2021. A private graveside service is planned.

Mrs. Salter was born in Camilla, Georgia and moved to Albany at an early age with her parents, Arsey Monroe Land and Thelma Carter Land. She attended schools in Camilla and Albany and graduated from Albany High School in the Class of 1945. Upon graduation she attended Albany Vocational School, graduating June 4, 1946. She became a legal secretary in the law office of Rosser Malone and Louis Peacock until her marriage in 1952. She moved to Athens, Georgia where her husband was attending Veterinary College at the University of Georgia.

After her husband, Dr. McTyier Salter, graduated from Veterinary College, he received a Commission in the U.S. Air Force. They moved to Ft. Walton Beach, Florida where he was stationed at Eglin Air Force Base for two years. Upon his discharge they moved to Dawson, Georgia where they had lived since.

Mrs. Salter was a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson and the Mary Martha Sunday School Class. She loved cooking, baking and shopping and enjoyed her family, her friends and her church. She is most remembered for her kindness and her beautiful smile.

In addition to her parents, she was pre-deceased by her husband of sixty-seven years, Dr. McTyier Salter; son, Donald Hill Salter; and brother, Stephen Monroe Land.

Mrs. Salter is survived by her son, McTyier Salter, Jr. and his wife, Brenda of Savannah; daughter, Susan Salter Wiggins of Royston, GA; daughter-in-law, Cindy Finley Salter of Lee County; seven grandchildren, Wesley Hill Salter of Albuquerque, NM, Marydon Salter Owings of Greenville, SC, Stephanie Salter Talley of Savannah, Taylor Jeffrey Salter of Lawrenceville, Heather Harper of Leesburg, Chad Kelly of Albany, and Hanna Gardner of Leesburg; and seven great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister, Betty Lou Land Daughtrey of Sugar Valley, GA.
