Obituary

Daphne Ann Chambless, 89, of Dawson, Georgia, passed on December 11, 2020. Ann was born on November 16, 1931 in Bronwood, Georgia to Mr. Edgar M. Chambless Sr. “Ted” and Daphne C. Chambless.

Ann resided in Dawson, Georgia on Church Street since the age of 14 and lived there for over 60 years until her move to Marietta, Georgia in 2013 where she made Heritage of Sandy Plains her home.

Ann was a graduate of Georgia Southwestern State University in 1950. Most recently, she served on the board of the GSW Alumni Association from 2003-2012, and was made a Life Member of the Board of Directors for the Alumni Association in 2012. She was also a member of the 1906 Society. She set up the Daphne Cantrell Chambless Scholarship Fund in her mother's name. While in school, she studied Home Economics and was a member of the Colhecon Club ('49, '50), serving as Secretary in 1950; Cotillion Club ('49, '50); Sou'wester Staff ('50) and B.S.U. ('50).

Ann was also an active member of The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR).

While living in Dawson, Ann was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson where she was a dedicated member who took on many roles. Her home on Church Street is part of the Terrell County Historic Preservation Society and has been featured in a Tour of Homes. For many years, Ann worked for the Terrell County Department of Human Services in the Division of Family & Children Services. Ann had a passion for animals, especially dogs, and had many companions by her side at different times. Snowball, Manzo, Trouble, O'Henry and Walter were all lucky enough to be cared for by Ann, and each held a special place in her heart. Ann was a devout Christian and loving neighbor.

Ann is survived by her niece Christy Chambless Liedberg of Marietta, Georgia (Husband Rob and children Matt, Hannah, and Tyler).

Ann was preceded in death by her parents Edgar M. Chambless Sr. and Daphne C. Chambless., and her younger brother Edgar Miller Chambless Jr.

There will be a brief graveside service held at Cedar Hill Cemetery in Dawson, Georgia at 3:00 P.M. on Sunday, December 13th 2020.
