Phonso Ellis Donaldson, Sr., 87, of Dawson passed away at Columbus Hospice on August 28, 2018. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, September 1, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Dawson.
Phonso was born in Bronwood, Georgia on September 3, 1930. His mother instilled in him a strong work ethic, which served him well in life. He proudly served twenty-one years in the Army National Guard. Although he was a man of humble beginnings, he retired as the Chief Executive Officer of the Bank of Dawson. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and never met a stranger. He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson, where he served as Deacon and was a member of the Choir.
Preceding him in death were his mother, Eunice Donaldson; his first wife and mother of his children, Ann Donaldson; his sister, Emogene Murphy and brother, Talmadge Donaldson. He is survived by wife, Mary Donaldson; children, Maria Barfield and Ellis Donaldson; grandchildren, Morgan Donaldson and Haley Barfield; and many others that were a part of his beloved family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, or to the National Pediatric Cancer Foundation or to the Prostate Cancer Foundation.
