Mervin H. Harpe, 96, of Dawson died August 20, 2017 at Magnolia Manor in Americus surrounded by her family. Graveside services will be held Wednesday, August 23rd at 11:00 a.m. in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Rev. Charles Jones will officiate.
Mrs. Harpe was born in Marion County on February 14, 1921, daughter of the late Andrew Lamar Hamilton and Lillian Irvin Hamilton. Wife of the late Gordon Harpe of Dawson, she was a native of Smithville and lived in Dawson for the past 74 years. Mrs. Harpe owned and operated Mervin’s Beauty Shop for many years until she retired. She was an active member of the First Baptist Church of Dawson, being a member of the Ike Chambless Sunday School Class, the Joyful Jubilee Choir and various Mission Circles. She was active in the Garden Club, Lioness Club and loved to play Bridge.
Survivors include two daughters, Cheryl Harpe Chandler (Jerry) of Dawson and Elaine Harpe Grant (Wayne) of Marietta; four grandchildren, Chad Chandler (Cathie) of Albany, Chevin Chandler Ellis of Americus, Kendall Dragoin (Anthony) of Americus and Kereth Grant Hicks (Fain) of Atlanta; great-grandchildren, Collins and Carson Chandler of Albany, Hayden Childress of Albany, Madison Ellis of Americus, Parker and Chandler Dragoin of Americus, Mary Everett of Atlanta and Hadley Hicks of Atlanta; and special caregivers, Linda Hawkins and Josephine Johnson.
