Dawson, GA--Helen Hamby Anthony, 87, passsed away at Dawson Health & Rehabilitation on April 3, 2019. The funeral will be held on Saturday, April 6, 2019, at 2:00 P.M. at Harvey Funeral Chapel with Dr. Emil Askew officiating. Visitation will be at 1:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service.
Helen was a lifelong resident of Terrell County, born on August 4, 1931, daughter of the late Aubry Jack Hamby, Sr. and Vonice Hutchins Hamby. She worked as a secretary for the Minister of Music and Minister of Education and Youth at the First Baptist Church of Dawson. She was married to the late Kenneth Warren Anthony of Sasser who passed away in 2018, and together they owned and operated Anthony's Service Station in Sasser for many years.
She was a member of Chickasawhatchee Baptist Church in Dawson and a former member of the Sasser Baptist Church. At Sasser Baptist over many years, she served in many capacities including, Youth Leader, Training Union Director, Sunday School Teacher, WMU Director, WMU Associational Treasurer and Choir Member.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers Tal Hamby and Jack Hamby, Jr. and two sisters, Louise Reynolds and Peggy Roberts.
Survivors include a daughter, Judy Fletcher and her husband, Wayne, of Dawson; a grandaughter, Amanda F. Jones (Wayne) of Myrtle Beach, SC and two great-grandchildren, Sarah and Ivy Jones and several nieces and nephews.
