Bronwood--Ella Mae Cowart, 85, of Bronwood, died at her residence on March 31, 2019 after a lengthy illness. The funeral service will be held Thursday, April 4, 2019 at the Bronwood Methodist Church at 11:00 A.M. with burial to follow in the Bronwood Cemetery. Visitation will be at 10:00 A.M. at the church prior to the funeral service.
Mrs. Cowart was a native of Abbeville, Alabama born on August 5, 1933, daughter of the late Ross Herbert Paul and Mary Ellen Hicks Paul. She had been a resident of Bronwood since l950 when she married her late husband, Charles Emory Cowart. She was a homemaker for many years and later embarked on another career as a barber. She worked in the Bronwood Barber Shop for several years and then moved to Dawson and owned and operated the Town & Country Barber Shop until her retirement.
She was a member of the Bronwood Methodist Church and was a Sunday School Teacher and an active volunteer.
In addition to her parents and her husband, she was preceded in death by a sister, Joanne Paul Allison.
Survivors include two sons, Steve Cowart (June) of Douglas and Ross Cowart (Diane) of Columbus; three grandchildren, Phillip Cowart (Danielle) Oklahoma City, OK, Sarah Cowart of State College, PA and Abigail Hensley (Austin) of Savannah; four great-grandchildren, Natalee Cowart, Bradley Cowart and Brennan Cowart and Emery Grace Hensley; Caregivers, Cynthia Lewis, Carolyn Baisden, Carolyn Cooper, Ida Mae Johnson, Wavine Thomas and Verlinda Jackson; special friends, Horace Lewis and Jimmie Stephens.
