C. Truitt Martin, Jr.

February 27, 1951 ~ January 17, 2019 (age 67)

Charles Truitt Martin Jr., 67, went home to be with the Lord on January 17, 2019.  Visitation will be held on Saturday, January 19, 2019, at Harvey’s Funeral Home from 5 – 7 pm.   The funeral service will be held at First Baptist Church of Dawson at 3:00 pm on Sunday, January 20, 2019.

Born on February 27, 1951, Truitt was raised in Shellman, GA and graduated from Randolph County High School in 1969.  He attended Valdosta State College and graduated from Georgia State University.  Truitt received his Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia School of Law.  In 1976, he began practicing law in Dawson where he maintained a practice for over 40 years.  Truitt served as the Pataula Circuit representative to the State Bar of Georgia Board of Governors and was involved in many community organizations over the years.

Truitt was a member of First Baptist Church of Dawson where he served as deacon and led a Sunday School class.  Truitt considered family as one of God’s greatest blessings.  He enjoyed time alone with God sitting on a porch or deer stand just as much as sitting in a pew.  One of his favorite past times was “kicking dirt” on the farm where he hosted family, friends and sponsored Wounded Warrior Hunts.  Life’s journey produced challenges, but he chose to fight for joy and cheer on others with the phrase “Be Encouraged.”

He was preceded in death by his father Charles Truitt Martin, Sr. Survivors include his loving wife of 42 years, Susan H. Martin; mother, Mary Laura Martin of Americus; son, Charlie Martin and his wife Rachel of Chattanooga, TN; daughter, Mary Katherine Martin of Atlanta, GA; four grandchildren, Hannah, Charles, Samuel and Aliviah Martin; siblings, Tommy and wife Sandy Martin, Tracy and husband David Barrett, Laura and husband Jerry Boland.
