On Saturday, June 8, 2019, Beverly Johnson, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away at her home in Dawson, GA at the age of 74.
Beverly was born on March 5, 1945 in Corning, Arkansas to Lester and Anna (Pender) Kesterson. She graduated from Jefferson City High School in Jefferson City, Missouri in 1963. She received a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Missouri - Columbia in 1967. On September 2, 1967, she married Orville “Buck” Johnson. Then in November 1972, Bev and Buck moved to Albany, GA where she worked as a medical technologist at Albany Internal Medicine for twenty-five years. They raised two daughters,Teresa and Marla.
Bev committed her life to Christ as a teenager and lived as a faithful servant of her Lord and Savior all her days, especially during her three year illness with lymphoma. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire all who are blessed to have known and loved her. She has been a member of Porterfield United Methodist Church in Albany, GA and a member of First Baptist Church in Dawson, GA.
Bev dedicated her life to loving her family and serving others. She loved nothing more than spending time and making memories with her children, grandchildren, and friends. Bev supported many organizations with her time and talents. Bev volunteered at Phoebe Putney Memorial Hospital in Albany, Food Pantry Ministry at First Baptist Church of Dawson, Main Street Theatre in Dawson, Alpha Pregnancy Center in Dawson and Lighthouse Children’s Advocacy Center in Americus. Bev was known for her gentle demeanor as well as her sweet, kind and compassionate spirit.
Beverly was preceded in death by her father, Lester, and her mother, Anna. She is survived by her husband, Buck Johnson, her daughter and son-in-law, Teresa (Johnson) Whitley and Lance Whitley, her daughter and son-in-law, Marla (Johnson) Rubsam and Bob Rubsam, her grandchildren, Lathon Whitley, Kathryn Whitley, Braden Rubsam, and Logan Rubsam, her sisters and brother-in-laws Judie and Larry Cline and Jeanie and Steve Adams, her sister and brother-in-law Leona and Richard Nistendirk along with several cousins, nieces, and nephews.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, June 12, 2019 at First Baptist Church on Church Street in Dawson, GA at 10:00 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations be made to the North American Mission Board or the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. A private burial will be at Andersonville National Cemetery.
