George Monroe "Roe" Roberts, III passed away Thursday, August 3, 2017 at his residence after a lengthy illness.
Roe was born October 8, 1938 in Terrell County, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Roberts and Anna Cushenberry Roberts, and nephew, Rob Roberts.
He graduated from Terrell High School and continued his education at Middle Georgia-Cochran for two years, after which he attended Auburn University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering in 1962. From 1962-1965, Roe worked for Boeing in Huntsville, Alabama as Design Engineer in the Saturn Space Program. In 1965 Roe was transferred to Boeing in New Orleans as a Design Engineer for the Saturn V Program. From 1967-1970 he was transferred to Cape Kennedy/Cape Canaveral, Florida for the launching of the Saturn V. On June 22, 1970, Roe began working for Southern Bell in Jacksonville, Florida as an Equipment Engineer, from which he retired on September 15, 2002, with the title of Specialist (Level 58) with Bell South Communications in Network Planning.
Roe enjoyed hunting, fishing, camping, swimming and dancing.
Roe is survived by his wife, Theresa Lynn Dale Roberts (Terry); four daughters, Fran Roberts Proctor (Glenn), Debbie Roberts Fowler (Doug), Virginia Lynn Gifford (Rob) and Hillary Harriet Pratt (Billy); seven grandchildren, Marley Pratt, Torsten Pratt, Garin Pratt, Jackie Gifford, Christopher Whitmore, Robbie Whitmore and Krystal Whitmore; and brother, Eddie Roberts (Teensie).
Funeral services will be held at Harvey Funeral Chapel at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday, August 6, 2017, with visitation to be held at the funeral home one hour prior to the service.
