George Raymond Daniel, Jr. was born to George Raymond Daniel, Sr. and Myra Inez Nowell Daniel in Dawson on September 28, 1921. Brother George was a sheet metal worker by trade, which he learned in his uncle H. E. Suggs' Dawson Sheet Metal Shop while still in high school. During World War II he became a civilian worker in the Naval Shipyard in Charleston, SC. Later when the Navy put out a call for sheet metal workers to enlist he joined up (July 1944) and served aboard a repair ship, the USS Hector, in the South Pacific. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on May 24, 1946.

While away in the Navy (and perhaps even before) he had felt the burden of a call to the gospel ministry. He thought this was a secret but it had been noticed by his pastor and other ministers and he was almost immediately licensed to begin preaching when he returned home.

Brother George was ordained as a Primitive Baptist minister on November 1, 1946 and served as pastor of numerous churches until 1985. After retiring from pastoral work he continued to preach whenever he was called upon until 2010.

He met his future wife, Ruby Laye, in his home church (Chickasawhatchee Primitive Baptist) where he was preaching a meeting in 1949. They were married on January 29, 1950, at her sister Gladys Laye's home in Columbus, GA. They celebrated their 50th anniversary in January 2000 but then she was called home to be with the Lord on September 13, 2000.

Survivors include two sons, John Walter Daniel of Canton, GA, and James Jackson "Jim" Daniel (Susie) of Richardson, TX, and two grandchilden, Hannah Elizabeth Daniel and Timothy James Daniel (Jennifer).
