Dawson--Alvah Lee "Al" Joiner of Dawson, died at his residence on Thursday, August 2, 2012. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 P.M. Sunday, August 5th at the Chickasawhatchee Baptist Church with De. Emil Askew officiating. Interment will follow in Cedar Hill Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. prior to the funeral service.
Al was born July 20, 1935 in Dawson and was the only child of the late Alvah E. Joiner, Jr. and Augustine "Betty" Bailey Joiner. At an early age, Al accepted Jesus as his personal Savior and has served the Lord faithfully since that time. He was ordained as a Deacon on December 10, 1967 at the Sasser Baptist Church. He was founder and a charter member of the Chickasawhatchee Baptist Church in Dawson where he served as Deacon. He was an active member of the Men's Sunday School Class and Adult Choir.
He recently retired from the Bank of Terrell in June 2012 after 28 years of service. Previously he and his wife owned and operated the Flower & Garden Shoppe for many years. Prior to that he served as Chevron Oil Agent for 20 plus years. Al also served as Coroner of Terrell County for two consecutive terms.
He was a Mason and a member of the P. T. Schley Lodge #229 and was also a member of the Hasan Shrine Temple of Albany.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, Alice Wilson Joiner, only child, Sheryl Ann Shepard and her husband, Jim, an only grandchild, Katie Lyn Shepard, all of Dawson.
